Louis Brochet

Brother and sister Louis and Helene took over at the helm of Champagne Louis Brochet in 2013. Based in Ecueil on the slope of ‘La Petite Montagne de Reims’, the northwestern part of the Montagne de Reims, they are the 4th generation to manage the 50 parcels spread over 13 hectares. Louis is a trained oenologist who has in the past worked with Bertrand Lilbert (though we were unaware of the connection until we met up), and has with Helene, been pushing the estate forwards in just the right direction. They’ve recently added nearly 1 hectare to the vineyard holdings, including a parcel on the impressive Mont Benoit.

Sustainability is the name of the game here, be it the oak barrels sourced from Ecueil’s communal forest to the recently purchased state of the art electric tractor (number 34 off the production line). Haute Valeur Environnmentale (HVE) certified since 2017, Louis Brochet were an early adopter of this increasingly popular sustainable certification. This drive to improve starts to evidence in the champagne, and while the Brut NV is the pick of the bunch at the moment, we follow the rest of the range with interest.
