Ludwig Neumayer

Austria, Traisental

Ludwig Neumayer

The top man in the Traisental has around 12 hectares of vines, devoted entirely to white wines. His Riesling and Grüner Veltliner wines are a match in raciness for the best wines of the Wachau, his stylistic aim for wines that are essentially bone dry and when rich that still retain great freshness. The vineyards rise up above the village to an altitude of 350 metres where these is always a breeze to help keep the vineyards free from the risk of rot. The soils here are predominantly limestone. The wines are invariably delightful and refreshing with alcohol typically around 12.5%. My tasting note for the Riesling Rothenbart (1er Lage) 2014 states ‘apricot…purity, precision, particularity, perfect balance, great length…’.
